I have been a blog slacker due to the fact that Joe had shoulder surgery on the 5th of Nov. His shoulder has been hurting for years so it was time to see what the problem was. They could not see anything from the X-rays or MRI so they decided they needed to scope it to see what was wrong.
We had to be at the hospital at 6:30 AM!! I ended up taking Audrey because I knew it would be a long day. The rest of the kids stayed with grandma and Georgina!!
We arrived and things were going well until Joe's surgery got pushed back. He finally went in around 9:00 am. Audrey and I just hung around the hospital waiting for news. Around 12:15 I finally got word that the surgery was finished.
There was a torn bicept muscle and some arthritis. Here is a picture of the detached muscle.
They then had to scrape the bone to make it bleed.
Then they reattach the muscle.
I think the hardest part of the day was when he was trying to come off the anesthesia. He could not wake up and it was making him sick. They would not let us go home until he was able to walk and not be so sick. We finally make it home at 7:00pm that night. There was a little more damage than the doctor had hoped but it seems like things went well. The biggest problem now is that Joe has to wear a sling both day and night for the next 6 weeks. It has been uncomforable for him and he wishes he could move his arm around.
Hopefully at the end of all of this, he will have an arm that he can use!! He hopes to enjoy baseball again!!!

um....ouch! But I am glad he is doing well.
Nothing like a little gore to get a Monday Morning started. ;)
Andria, I hate hearing BIG things over blog world. I can't believe he had surgery and I didn't know these things. I'll be honest the inside of the body pictures gross me out a little, only when I think about what it is.
Poor Joe (poor you!) I hope he continues to heal quickly, and that at his doctor's appointment he is moving along much faster than they thought he would! :)
Sorry to hear about Joe. I hope that he is making a good recovery. It is amazing how much we beat our bodies up by playing ball and doing the things we love. I am trying to buy time with mine as well but as I get older I know that it will probably need to be done. :( Tell him to make sure he wears his sling!!! I work with a guy that is pretty stubborn and quit wearing his sling after a week or so and now he has to go back in and have it done again. AUGH!!! Hang in there, I know it's probably just as hard on you as it is on Joe because now he only has 1 arm to help you out. :)
Those pictures are nasty! I hope he keeps recovering good. Let us know if you need anything like an extra arm to hold a baby ;)
I agree with Stacey, poor Joe but really poor you. Chad had a shoulder surgery last year and I told him if he every has surgery again I will higher him a nurse and I'm leaving town. I love him to death but he that surgery was BAD! I hope you all recover from it quickly. Chad hated wearing that big brace to, tell Joe to hang in there.
I swear we have very similiar events take place in our lives! Just about 4 weeks ago, Andy had to have his knee scoped. I hung out at the hospital all day with my baby waiting for the news as well. We had the same kind of pictures taken from the scope. Andy had tissue removed. They also found some arthritis right under his kneecap. Anyway, he is fine now...back to work and going strong. Tell Joe that Andy can relate to the surgery thing. Andy claims that playing catcher all those years messed up his knees. I guess our hubbies are getting old and their bodies are starting to fall apart :) Best wishes to Joe!
